Default Downloaded tricks as contest prizes?

Is it okay to give downloaded files away in your contests, even if you purchased those files yourself?

Personally, I'm really against this for the simple reason that you are duplicating the file in question. It's not that you buy a DVD and give this away, you are actually keeping a copy of it for yourself. And since the contest is public, you basically share the file publicly too rather than it being private. Anyone is able to win.

If only people who'd do so, would have purchased the file the amount of times they are giving it away as a prize. But no, it's just another way to not spend any money on prizes and to get known on the internet for having a so called good heart because the people joining don't know any better.

But hey, that's just my opinion. What about yours? Please don't hold back because I said such things. You are very allowed to give your own opinion.

I don't get it.. Is someone giving away a "download" as a prize for a youtube competition? If so its gonna be complicated. That person should technically delete the file from their hard disk if they are going to give it to someone else. If not and they just give away multiple copies of an official download that was only bought once then this is basically piracy.

Totally agree with you. I hate when I see downloads as contest prizes. Usually I write back somthing like "So you will send it to our houses? The original DVDs? Because if not, it's illegal, u know?!"

I personally think that giving downloaded files (for which you a person has paid for) away as a prize for a contest is unacceptable because you can only pay for the effect, download it, watch it, learn from it and share it with some REAL magician friends. BUT. Giving the file away to some third parties can be considered as illigal copying and distribution. So yeah, that's not a very good thing to do.
