I did it by feel indeed (you can actually see that if you look close). But with my Bee decks the card patter is visible from the edges too (unless you plan on just showing the faces of the cards).
By the way, don't take the challenge too serious and don't take note of it if you're not planning on performing this effect live. It's just that I prefer you (and Trav) ending up all clean. This effect was specifically created to have the deck handed out in the end so the spectator could check out every single card.
