What brought you here?
And by "here", i didn't mean this forum, but actually the place you're at in society, student, magician or musician, which ever place you feel like talking about.
To me, i came here through a classic cups and balls routine i saw when i was a kid, feel in love with the impossible things i saw, and wished that i could do what i saw... now i could.

To be honest, there was one person who changed my life. He's a friend I met over a game called GunZ Online. He is very philosophical, and an overall nice guy. He's the guy in my quote. In society, he taught me about class, and how to handle people who attack me with words. As a student, he really did not help me with my education. As a magician, he is the person who got me started. He was my role model. He himself was not a magician, but he knew basic moves (Backpalm, the French Drop, etc.). One day, he posted a video up... and I saw it. That was when I wanted to be a magician. Magic just seemed so badass because of him. Now, here I am.

For me my basic interest in magic came from two friends (who did not know each other) who each did bits and pieces of magic. I then bought my first book (Bobo's Coin Magic) and tried little things from there on and off for a year or two. Almost two years ago though, I reread some of the book, got some decent reactions (as opposed to my parent's previous obligatory smiles), and I started buying more magic books/DVDs. I think my interest in magic really lies in the problem solving aspect. In general, I love problems, especially logical puzzles, and challenges. Magic really is a great exercise in problem solving- how to do one thing and make your spectator see something else. Also now in trying to create some effects, it makes you think "This is what I want to achieve, now how can I construct this from the bottom up to make this happen." It is also amazing when you are able to facilitate truly magical moments, and make everyone else just a bit happier.

IF YOU PLAYED GUNZ, YOU CAN DO THE MUSCLE PASS WELL. Anyway, with the topic at hand, I decided one day to be awesome, and here I am. As arrogant/bullshit/conceited that sounds, I just decided one day to be an awesome person. It's been working as far as I can tell, and, if it's not working, well, I still feel great. |

just wondering... what does a keyboard played game have anything to do with your palm?
And please tell us the real reason you're who you are today... cause that sounds more like a joke than an answer...

I think Fruglemonkey is being very serious. Optimism is really a powerful weapon you know?
How I can to be who I am is somewhat similar to Frugle's now that I think about it. I would think of a goal I want to achieve (not a dream, because dreams are not supposed to be reachable) and I would believe that I could do it over and over again no matter how discouraging something was and so far, it's worked out pretty well for me. Out of all honesty, optimism is really powerful and I really recommend everyone else here to adopt that view. You will also feel better about yourself as well

i think his 20 questions video answered quite a bit already... but "dedication" is, tbh, quite a common answer... in fact, i think that's what brought everyone to where they are in magic, in life or simply in a little school project.

Indeed, it's the key to pretty much everything. However, I know way too many people that do things they aren't dedicated to and therefor don't do them well. Dedication is quite a life changer (may it be temporary like in a little project or permanent like in a hobby). It's a verb like love is a verb as you aren't just being dedicated to something or you aren't just in love with someone, it takes work and you will have to sacrifice yourself to do so.
If I would have to answer the question for one particular case, I wouldn't know what to choose from so let me answer it for some: I got here, in magic, by watching David Copperfield and David Blaine on TV and being pretty sure I could do those things too. I got here, in music, by having an older sister who played the piano before I was born and got me to play it too. I got here, creating this community, because I was tired seeing forums humiliating their members. I got here, in the entertainment industry, because I live in a very stressful environment and I offer everyone to take a break from that stress for a little bit and feed myself from the delightful reactions it gives (yay for everyone being happeh!). |
