It wont slow down the actual computer, but depending on your internet connection speed it may slow down your internet ever so slightly.

The better your internet is, the faster the download will be. If you are doing things such as watching a video while downloading, the video and download will be slower. Nothing else will be affected. Also, if you do something ping related (gaming, etc.) your ping will increase substantially...

Also to add onto the previous posts, it actually is possible for the computer to slowdown.
To give an example, depending on the RAM of your computer, when you have many many programs open and running in the background, the computer's performance "can" decrease in terms of speed. So if you were using Mozilla Firefox to download it, then the amount of memory this program will take up + other programs running in the background must be LESS than the memory your computer can handle for it to run at normal speed. Otherwise, your computer can slowdown other programs to prioritize its essential ones. I hope that makes sense. So just make sure you don't have too many programs open at once and you should be completely fine

Most computers are averaged at 4 Gigabytes of RAM these days... it should not be a problem because Firefox runs at an average of 170,000 K Memory.

axtually it will depneding on how much is downloaded. If your computer has a few files it will run at its normal speed but as more is added it will get slower (and it will also take longer to log on, mine takes 3 times longer then when i first got it)

It's not a big file.. If you have a good internet connection and a half-decent pc you have nothing to worry about.

in short, the file itself won't cause the computer to slow down, but a whole vault full of files will, and while the file is downloading, the internet should be slower than normal( if the speed of the connection is strong enough, you won't notice it)

I bet that some of you are seriously confusing Therippedtormentor with the many repeats about how things like the internet may actually slow down. The answer to what he meant was, is and will be "no".

Mark is right. The effect of downloading shouldn't slow down the computer. The side effects of having additional files in memory, however, will slowdown the booting process eventually, but that's mostly the case if there are LOTS of start-up programs.
